COSMETIC TREATMENTS

Chemical
Peels

Chemical peels are a widely used cosmetic treatment aimed at improving skin texture and appearance. The procedure involves applying a chemical solution to the skin, which triggers exfoliation and renewal of the epidermis. The result is smoother, even-toned skin with reduced fine lines and improved skin color.

The Treatment

Chemical peeling is performed in an in-office setting, where a chemical solution is applied to the skin of the face or other areas for a few minutes, depending on the type of peel. One or more chemical agents may be used. A soothing mask is then applied to calm the skin. The duration of the procedure varies based on the depth and extent of the treatment and can last between 20 and 60 minutes.

Information About Chemical Peels

Recovery time depends on the depth of the chemical peel:

  • Superficial Peel: Minimal to mild exfoliation lasting 4–5 days, often accompanied by slight redness.
  • Medium and Deep Peel: Swelling, bruising, and intense peeling, which can last between 7 and 14 days.

It is essential to use moisturisers and apply sun protection for several weeks following a chemical peel. Certain medications should be avoided before treatment to minimise the risk of side effects.

While generally safe, chemical peels should always be performed under the supervision of a cosmetologist, dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Mild redness, swelling, or inflammation may occur, particularly if the procedure is not carried out correctly.

Types of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels vary in depth and are selected based on the skin’s needs and treatment goals:

  • Superficial Peel: Targets mild issues such as dull skin, fine lines and hyperpigmentation. These involve mild chemical solutions with a short downtime.
  • Medium Peel: More effective for deeper wrinkles and pigmentation issues, as stronger solutions penetrate the deeper layers of the skin.
  • Deep Peel: Used for severe wrinkles or acne scars. This type requires strict medical supervision as the chemical solution reaches the deepest layers of the skin.
DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?

What You Need to Know

Yes, chemical peels can be effective in treating acne scars, especially when combined with other dermatological treatments.

Depending on the problem and the type of peel, between one and three sessions may be needed for optimal and lasting results.

Results begin to appear a few days after treatment, with further improvements in skin texture and tone becoming more noticeable over the following 2–3 weeks.

Individuals with very sensitive skin, open wounds, or conditions such as rosacea may not be suitable candidates. A medical consultation is essential before undergoing treatment.

The cost depends on the type of peel, the treatment area and the number of sessions required to achieve the desired results.
