The Procedure
A thigh lift is usually performed under general anaesthesia and takes approximately two hours. Incisions are placed in natural folds of the skin or concealed within underwear lines. At the end of the procedure, drains are placed to prevent fluid accumulation and are typically removed within 1 to 3 days. In some cases, liposuction may be combined with a thigh lift to enhance the final outcome.
Recovery & Complications
Recovery After a Thigh Lift
- Patients may stay at the hospital for a few hours or overnight, depending on the extent of the surgery.
- Postoperative pain is usually mild and can be managed with pain relief medication.
- Absorbable sutures are used, so stitch removal is not necessary.
- A compression garment must be worn for 4 to 6 weeks to support healing.
- Strenuous physical activity and gym workouts should be avoided for at least one month.
Special creams may be recommended to aid scar healing and prevent hypertrophic scars.
Are there any risks or complications?
As with any surgical procedure, potential risks include bleeding, infection, delayed wound healing and visible scarring. However, these risks can be minimised with proper postoperative care.

Surgical Planning
The choice of technique depends on the severity of skin laxity. Incisions are strategically placed to minimise visibility. The following techniques can be used separately or in combination depending on the severity of skin laxity:
- Mini Thigh Lift: Suitable for mild skin laxity, with a scar confined to the groin area, which is easily concealed.
- Vertical Thigh Lift: Required for more significant skin laxity, involving a vertical incision along the inner thigh. Although more visible, the scar fades considerably over time.
