The use of medical, absorbable threads for non-surgical lift of the face and body is a relatively new approach to the problem of skin laxity. With this method we use specially designed PDO threads that form a mesh which tightens and lifts the skin in a very predictable and safe manner. The greatest advantage of these threads, in comparison to those of older technology, is the fact that they dissolve completely within a few months and thus do not form granulomas in the skin or cause any other unwanted reaction.
Medical threads are indicated for the correction of mild skin laxity but cannot achieve the results of a surgical face lift. They can be combined with other skin treatments (botox, fillers, mesotherapy) in order to give a valuable alternative to those not eager to be put through a surgical procedure.
Medical threads comprise two major categories:
PDO threads
This is the simplest type of threads that create a supportive subcutaneous mesh that improves face wrinkles and gives a more youthful appearance. Their effect is due to collagen production and becomes apparent a few weeks after the application. Return to normal daily activities is immediate.
Surgical threads (COG-PDO threads)
These threads have the ability to gently pull the skin thanks to the tiny anchors that exist on their surface. They are indicated for the correction of skin laxity, especially at the jaw line. The result is immediate and is further enhanced during the first two months. The procedure is carried out under local anesthesia. Moderate swelling and bruising may appear which dissolve within a week after the procedure.
PDO threads can be used in the following areas:
- Nasolabial folds and jaw line
- Cheeks
- Forehead and around the eyes
- Neckline and décolleté
- Arms and inner side of knees
