BODY CONTOURING

Buttock
Augmentation

Buttock augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the volume and improve the shape of the buttocks. It can also be effectively used in cases of mild skin laxity, particularly in younger patients, offering superior cosmetic results.

The Procedure

Buttock augmentation can be done using either silicone implants or fat transfer. These two distinct surgical approaches each have specific advantages and considerations. The most suitable method is determined following a thorough examination and discussion with the plastic surgeon. The procedure is always performed under general anaesthesia, and an overnight stay in the clinic is required for post-operative monitoring.

Types of Buttock Augmentation

This procedure involves liposuction and then transfer of fat from other areas of the body to the buttocks, thus creating a natural-looking enhancement. It is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes 3-4 hours. The small incisions made for fat injection are strategically placed in natural skin folds and concealed areas. When combined with extensive liposuction, BBL delivers a highly sculpted and impressive result.

Silicone implants, similar to those used in breast augmentation, are inserted through precise incisions in the coccyx (tailbone) area. The results are immediate and predictable. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia, with an overnight hospital stay required. Post-operative discomfort is usually mild and managed with painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication. Wearing a special compression garment and avoiding physical exercise for one month are essential for optimal recovery.

Buttock enhancement with injectable fillers is a minimally invasive alternative, typically performed in a clinic setting. The materials used are absorbable hyaluronic acid-based fillers, requiring repeat treatments every 1-2 years to maintain results. This is a simple and safe option for patients seeking a non-surgical enhancement.

Surgical Planning

Incisions are placed in discreet locations to minimise visibility:

  • Brazilian Butt Lift: Tiny liposuction incisions become almost imperceptible once healed.
  • Silicone Implants: Incisions are made within the intergluteal crease for better concealment.
  • Injectable Fillers: No incisions are required as the material is administered using specialised cannulas.
DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?

What You Need to Know

  • With silicone implants, results are permanent.
  • With fat transfer, some fat is naturally absorbed, but the remaining fat provides long-term results.
  • With injectable fillers, results last 1-2 years and require maintenance treatments.

Most patients can resume light activities within 10-14 days. However, intense physical activity should be avoided for one month. Sitting directly on the buttocks should also be avoided for two weeks, especially after a BBL.

As with any surgery, complications such as haematoma, infection, asymmetry, or healing issues may occur. Fat transfer carries a small risk of fat embolism.

After fat transfer (BBL), patients are advised to avoid direct sitting for two weeks. For implants, careful positioning is necessary for about a month.

The optimal method depends on your individual goals, the amount of available fat, and your aesthetic preferences. A specialist plastic surgeon will guide you in making the right choice.

The cost varies depending on the chosen method and the individual patient’s needs. A detailed price estimate will be provided following a consultation with the plastic surgeon.
