BODY CONTOURING

Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to remove local fat deposits from various areas of the body. Common treatment areas for women include the thighs, knees, buttocks, and abdomen, while for men, excess fat tends to accumulate primarily in the abdominal and neck regions. Liposuction is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures worldwide.

It is important to emphasise that liposuction is not a weight-loss method; rather, it is intended to target stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. The ideal candidate for the procedure is someone who has normal weight but presents with localised fat accumulation in specific areas. Additionally, good skin elasticity is essential to ensure that the removal of fat does not result in excessive skin laxity.

The Procedure

Liposuction is typically performed under local anaesthesia and sedation. At the beginning of the procedure, a special solution is injected into the treatment area to facilitate fat removal and minimise bleeding. A blunt cannula is then inserted through small incisions in the skin in order to extract the fat. These incisions are minimal and usually become barely noticeable after healing.

About Liposuction

PAL is a specialised technique that utilises vibrating cannulas to facilitate the removal of fat. This approach allows the surgeon to extract fat more efficiently and with greater precision, resulting in a smoother, more sculpted outcome.

The incisions made during liposuction are small and carefully positioned in natural skin folds or other discreet areas to minimise visibility.

Depending on the extent of the procedure, the patient may stay in the clinic overnight, although in most cases, they can return home on the same day. Swelling and bruising are common in the treated areas but gradually subside over the following weeks. Most patients can return to work within 3 to 5 days.

A compression garment must be worn for 4 to 6 weeks to support healing and minimise swelling. Although the results of liposuction are immediately visible, the final outcome becomes fully apparent after approximately six months, once the swelling has completely resolved.

Ideal Candidate For Liposuction

The best candidates for liposuction are individuals who:

  • Maintain a stable weight close to their ideal body weight.
  • Have stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise.
  • Have good skin elasticity to prevent sagging after fat removal.
  • Do not suffer from serious medical conditions that could impact healing.
  • Do not smoke or are willing to stop smoking before and after surgery.

DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?

What You Need to Know

The duration depends on the area(s) being treated but typically ranges from 1 to 3 hours.

Yes, provided the patient maintains a stable weight and follows a healthy lifestyle.

In most cases, further treatment is not necessary unless there are significant weight fluctuations or natural ageing changes.

Yes.  Provided that the total amount of fat removed remains within safe medical limits, liposuction can be safely performed on multiple areas in one session.

Although improvements are visible immediately, the final results are typically assessed around six months post-surgery.

The cost depends on the number of areas treated, the volume of fat removed and whether fat transfer is performed. A consultation with your plastic surgeon will provide a personalised cost estimate.
