The Procedure
Facelift surgery typically takes around three hours and is usually performed under general anaesthesia. Patients stay overnight at the hospital before returning home with a supportive bandage, which must be worn 24/7 for the first week. This bandage is then replaced by an elastic garment, which must be worn for approximately 3-4 weeks. During the first few days, swelling and bruising are expected but these will gradually subside. Patients may experience a sensation of tightness of the facial skin; however, discomfort is usually mild and manageable with common pain medicine. Early results become visible as swelling decreases within 3-4 weeks, while the final outcome is fully apparent after approximately six months.
Recovery
The recovery timelime includes;
- First week: Significant swelling and bruising, with a support bandage in place
- Weeks 2-3: Gradual resolution of swelling, return to light daily activities, and continued use of a facial elastic garment
- One month: Most patients resume normal daily routines
- Six months: The final results become fully visible
Following surgery, patients should avoid strenuous exercise for 4-6 weeks and limit sun exposure for at least three months.

DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?
What You Need to Know
Are surgical facelift results permanent?
While a facelift provides long-lasting results (typically 7-10 years), the skin ageing process continues. Over time, skin laxity may reappear, and a secondary procedure can be performed.
Which is the ideal age for a facelift?
Facelifts are commonly performed on individuals over 40-45 years old. There is no strict age limit as the need for surgical correction depends on skin elasticity and individual needs.
What is the forehead lift?
This is a surgery procedure that corrects the wrinkles of the forehead. The incisions are made in the scalp, forehead skin is pulled upwards and is sutured to place. This results in the improvement of forehead wrinkles and a relaxed and youthful appearance.
Will there be any visible scars?
Incisions are strategically placed in inconspicuous areas, such as the hairline and natural folds around the ears, making scars barely noticeable once healed.
When can I return to work?
Most patients resume daily activities within 2-3 weeks, depending on their healing process.
What is the difference between a facelift and a forehead lift?
A facelift primarily targets the lower face and neck, whereas a forehead lift softens forehead wrinkles and raises the eyebrows for a refreshed appearance.
How can I enhance the overall appearance of my face?
For a more harmonious result, a facelift can be combined with:
- A forehead lift – to smooth forehead wrinkles and lift the eyebrows
- Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) – to rejuvenate the eye area
Are there non-surgical alternatives?
Yes, treatments such as injectable fillers, Botox, radiofrequency and thread lifts can provide temporary improvements. However, these options do not achieve the same long-lasting results as a surgical facelift.
How much does a facelift cost?
The cost varies depending on the complexity of the procedure, the type of anaesthesia used and individual patient needs. A final price is determined following a clinical assessment.
