Lip volume augmentation may be achieved with different methods and can be temporary or permanent. Hyaluronic acid is the filler of choice in most cases of temporary augmentation and the results can last up to six months. For permanent lip augmentation we can use silicon implants in different sizes depending on the desired result. Fat transfer is also a relatively new method for permanent lip enhancement.
Lip augmentation with fillers-hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that is found in many parts of the human body, including the skin. During the last decade, the efficasy and safety of the use of hyaluronic fillers in anti-ageing therapies is very well documented. Hyaluronic acid fillers help restore or enhance the lip volume and conture and soften the fine lines around the mouth.
The procedure
This is an office-based treatment that takes approximately 30 minutes. It is done under local anesthesia either by numbing cream, spray or injection and the results are immediately apparent. Minor swelling or swelling may appear after the injection and can last up to 3-4 days.
Results
Hyaluronic acid fillers can give very beautiful and natural results. We use only high quality lip fillers such as Juvéderm Ultra Smile, Teosyal Kiss, Restylane Kysse and Neauvia Intense Lips. Respect to face anatomy and proportion is mandatory as is avoiding to inject excessive quantity of lip filler.
Injectable hyaluronic acid is a biodegradable filler and the results last approximately 3-6 months.
Lip augmentation with silicon implants
In contrast with hyaluronic acid, silicon implants provide permant lip augmentation. This is a minor surgical procedure executed under local anesthesia. The insertion of the implants is achieved through small incisions placed at the lip border and the scars are minimal.
Fat transfer
Lip augmentation with fat transfer is a relatively new method with permanent results. Under local anesthesia, the plastic surgeon harvests a small amount of fat from another body area (e.g. belly). This fat is then centrifuged and injected in the lips through a small cannula. Nearly 50-60% of this fat is permanently incorporated. The procedure is almost painless and takes 45-60 minutes.
