Buttock augmentation is the surical procedure that aims to enhance the volume and improve the shape of the buttocks. It is indicated when minor or no skin redundancy is present. Buttock enlargement can be accomplished through;
Α) Liposuction – Fat transfer
With fat grafting we transfer fat from one body area (abdomen-thighs) to specific parts of the buttocks that we need to enhance. The technique is similar to traditional liposuction. The harvested fat needs to be specially treated in order to be safely grafted. The procedure is very safe and the final result very natural. Its disadvantage could be the lack of sufficient amount of fat and the need for additional procedures in order to achieve the desired result.
B) Implants
Implants similar to those used for breast augmentation are also used for buttock augmentation. These implants are inserted through incisions in the coccyx region. With this procedure, the final outcome is direct and very predictable.
Buttock augmentation is performed under general anesthesia and the patient usually stays at the clinic overnight. Post-surgical pain is very mild. Antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicine is prescribed and a special elastic garment is used for one month. Sitting for several hours is to be avoided for the first two to three weeks and exercise is prohibited for the first month.
Is buttock augmentation possible with dermal fillers?
Yes, buttock augmentation is possible with fillers and is rather simple and safe. The main disadvantage of this method is that the materials we use are absorbable and the procedure needs to be repeated every 12-18 months.
