Labiaplasty is the surgical procedure that improves the look of the female external genitalia by reducing the length of the labia minora. Labia minora hypertrophy is a rather common and unpleasant situation that can cause pain from twisting and tugging of the labia when riding a bike or during intercourse, itching and irritation.
The procedure
Labiaplasty is a procedure that can be done under either local anesthesia with oral sedation or under general anesthesia. The most common type of labiaplasty is the trim procedure, in which the extra tissue is removed and sewn up directly. Closure is usually done with absorbable sutures. The operation takes approximately 45-60 minutes.
Recovery after labiaplasty
Common painkillers and icing can be used to reduce mild pain and swelling during the first week. Patients can resume wearing tampons or having intercourse after three to four weeks.
Labia majora surgery
In some cases, labia majora can be smaller than normal. Local plastic surgery techniques and/ or fat transfer are used to resolve this situation.
How much does a labiaplasty cost?
The cost of labiaplasty depends in the nature of the problem and the type of anesthesia. The total price can be reduced if labiaplasty is performed at the same time with another surgical procedure.
